IRIS CSV limits: 250 records per file, 100 forms per submission
The IRIS Taxpayer Portal accepts up to 250 records per CSV (header excluded), one form type and tax year per file, and 100 forms per submission. How to split large files.
The IRIS Taxpayer Portal's CSV upload is free, but it has hard limits. All of them come from IRS Publication 5717 (Rev. 9-2026):
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Records per CSV | 250 (header row not included) |
| Form types per CSV | 1 |
| Tax years per CSV | 1 |
| Templates | Only IRS-provided CSV templates |
| Forms per submission | 100 |
| Forms per PDF download | 100 |
| Issuers per file | Several, if your TCC role is transmitter |
Splitting a big file the right way
Splitting by hand in Excel is how new errors creep in: a lost header row, a re-saved file with scientific-notation TINs, or a duplicate row across two parts. The safe order is validate → split → upload:
- Validate and fix the full file first.
- Split into parts of at most 250 data rows, each with the exact header row.
- Name the parts clearly, for example
1099-NEC_2026_part1-of-3.csv. - Upload each part, review it, and choose Add All.
- Submit in batches of up to 100 forms and save each receipt ID.
IRIS CSV Pro does steps 1–3 in one click. A 612-record file becomes a ZIP with three IRIS-ready CSVs (250 + 250 + 112) and an issues report.
